Spread it around, says West Branch reader

In his tax plan, George W. Bush plans to give MORE to those who have benefited the most from the hard work and ingenuity of all of us. ÿI’m not talking about your basic millionaire; I am talking about the super-wealthy who already hold half of all the nation’s wealth.Bush’s scam is to claim that by extending a like-percentage-reduction in tax rates to all, he is treating everyone alike — even though the benefits of such a cut go overwhelmingly to the very wealthiest. ÿIf he really wants to treat everyone alike, why not just divide the amount of money that he wants to return by the total number of taxpayers and then give the same dollar amount to each of us? ÿÿNow that is an across-the-board cut that I can live with — in fact, I can even live better with it.It is time to give those who do (and have done — that’s me) the heavy lifting in our society a bigger share of the fruits of labor. Our system has been very good to the wealthy — enough is enough. It is time to spread it around.Sam Osborne
