An informed decision
February 27, 2001
The Government of the Student Body election is March 6 and 7. These are the people students are electing to represent them to the ISU administration. Don’t vote for a president and vice president just because you like their names or saw a poster for them once; get involved and vote for the slate you think represents your interests the best.Making an informed decision about your student body leaders is not difficult. All this week the Daily will be running profiles of the four slates running for GSB president and vice president. If you have enough time to read this editorial, you have enough time to learn about the candidates running for GSB.The candidates are also participating in a series of debates. The next debate will be at 11 a.m. in the Campanile room on the Memorial Union. ISU9 will be rerunning the first debate, and footage from the debates is available at www.iowastatedaily.com.The slates running for GSB president and vice president are Bing Howell and Zach Eakman; Jeff “Tex” Mayes and Stephanie Vinton; Andy Tofilon and Charlie Johnson; and registered write-in candidates Matt Welk and Shelley Smith. These candidates have different ideas for how they want to spend your student fees. Last fall, ISU and University of Northern Iowa student governments travelled to the Capitol to protest the 10 percent tuition hike. University of Iowa GSB members, however, backed out at the last minute. The tuition increase was approved. If you want to make sure YOUR student government is standing up for YOUR concerns, take advantage of all your available resources and make an informed decision on March 6 or 7.editorialboard: Carrie Tett, Jocelyn Marcus, Katie Goldsmith, Andrea Hauser and Tim Paluch
