Registration is the problem, not speciality seats
February 28, 2001
The current GSB debate is focused on whether to eliminate or keep specialty senate seats. I think the focus should be on how to properly notify students of how to register for specialty-seat voting. Last year, GSB made a strong effort to publicize how and where students registered. This year, the notification seemed to be lacking. The fact that only a handful of students registered is not an indication that students don’t care about the seats, but that notification was somehow lacking.Specialty-seat representation is not extra representation. Students are asked to give up either college or housing representation. Students represented by the specialty seat senators are not getting any more representation than any other student on this campus.Richard Freeman
