Controversy arose at the Government of the Student Body senate meeting Wednesday night, when several senators objected to the seating of a former LAS senator on the election commission.Despite the efforts of Jeremy Peterson, business, and the other objecting senators, the bill to seat four students, including Steve Skutnik, former LAS senator, on the commission passed 21-5-5.Peterson said the objections stemmed from questionable tactics employed by Skutnik when he served as a poll worker during the GSB elections last year. Peterson said during the elections last year, Skutnik, senior in physics, sent out a mass e-mail that stated it was unacceptable to have the greeks out-voting the students in the dorms.Skutnik claimed that Peterson was “making a mountain out of a molehill.””I’ve worked with Mr. Wisher, the current election commissioner, and we work together very well,” he said. “I know that I will work hard, and I feel that I could be a great asset to the GSB election commission.”Chris Wisher, election commissioner, said the objections were not necessary. He said he has worked with Skutnik for years, and he has never had any problems with him.”Steve is very opinionated,” Wisher said. “But when he does his job, he does it well.”by Steven BrittainIowa State DailyControversy arose at the Government of the Student Body senate meeting Wednesday night, when several senators objected to the seating of a former LAS senator on the election commission.Despite the efforts of Jeremy Peterson, business, and the other objecting senators, the bill to seat four students, including Steve Skutnik, former LAS senator, on the commission passed 21-5-5.Peterson said the objections stemmed from questionable tactics employed by Skutnik when he served as a poll worker during the GSB elections last year.
