Spread `it’ where?
February 9, 2001
Sam Osborne wants to spread “it” around all right. Of course, the Daily must have edited out the first two letters in his original letter. It amazes me that so many people think the government should redistribute wealth. Where in the Constitution does it say the government should take money from one taxpayer and give it to another? Today’s system of government taxation and spending is insane. As a nation, we will be overtaxed by nearly $6 trillion over the next 10 years. The government is considering reducing over taxation by a whopping $2 billion. The rest will be spent, not by those who worked hard to earn it, but by those who think it should be spread around. Our nation is supposed to be one which treats everyone, rich and poor, the same under the law. Government redistribution of wealth is blatant discrimination against those who earn what liberal elitists believe is “too much.” On top of that, those who pay the most for government programs through taxation also utilize government programs the least. This is equivalent to me paying the bill when Mr. Osborne goes out to eat. Why should I have to pay? Everyone in this nation has the same opportunity to succeed or fail. We all control our own lives. The United States is not a socialist nation. If you want to live in a socialist nation, Mr. Osborne, why don’t you move to Canada or Europe? If you want to stay here, don’t expect me to pay for your lunch. W. Alan Williams, CPA
