Sullivan’s shooting wins him Big 12 rookie of the week

ISU freshman guard Jake Sullivan was rewarded for his stellar play in Saturday’s 79-71 win over Kansas by being named Big 12 Rookie of the Week.Sullivan torched the Jayhawks for 22 points to lead all scorers. Sullivan finished six of eight from long range, drilling six consecutive three-pointers. The Oakdale, Minn. native finished 8 of 11 overall from the field.The Cyclones raced out to an early lead as Sullivan drained four straight three-pointers to put Iowa State ahead 20-15 in front of a CBS national television audience. Sullivan’s fourth three-point bomb was from nearly 25 feet, drawing remarks of “he’s an assassin” and “automatic” by the CBS broadcasting duo of Jon Sundvold and Kevin Harlan.On the season, Sullivan is sporting a scoring average of 11.9 points per game and has made 55 three-pointers. Sullivan has totaled 297 points, good for eighth-best among freshmen in school history.The 55 treys lead the Cyclones and has broken the ISU freshman record. Sullivan carries a 47 percent shooting percentage from three-point territory, third best in the Big 12 Conference.The Cyclones are aiming for their 10th straight win tonight against Kansas State in Manhattan. The Cyclones are currently ranked sixth in both the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.
