Make Geoffroy your president

Editorial Board

The wait is finally over, Iowa State.Your president, Gregory Geoffroy, is here and excited about his new role at Iowa State.During a press conference announcing his selection, Geoffroy said he chose Iowa State over the University of Kentucky, where he was also a finalist for the presidency, because Iowa State felt like a better “fit” for him.And in many ways, it is. Geoffroy has a strong background in chemistry and the sciences, which are highly emphasized on our campus. He also has served at two different land-grant institutions, Penn State and the University of Maryland. But what Geoffroy said really attracted him to our campus were the great experiences he had during the public forums on his campus visit last Friday. He said he was very impressed with the students and faculty he met, their ideas and questions. He said Iowa State is a school he has admired for a long time and he wants to learn as much about us as possible before his arrival on July 1.This is the time to open your arms wide, Iowa State. The time to show off our traditions, our values and our goals. But don’t stop there. There are many things that are good on the ISU campus, but there are many things that need to be changed, too. This is the time to voice your concerns and opinions about the future of Iowa State to the man who will help lead us there.Let’s help him take us where we want to go.editorialboard: Carrie Tett, Greg Jerrett, Katie Goldsmith, Amie Van Overmeer, Andrea Hauser and Jocelyn Marcus
