Vet med fair focuses on travel opportunities
January 26, 2001
International travel opportunities will be the focus of the third annual International Veterinary Opportunity Fair. The fair will be held Friday at the College of Veterinary Medicine. “The purpose of the fair is to expose students to the opportunities available to them related to international travel and experience, most often also pertaining to the field of veterinary medicine,” said Christian Taylor, president of the Committee for International Veterinary Opportunities. The fair will be held at 11 a.m. in room 2226 of Veterinary Medicine. It is open to all undergraduate students. Students will also be able to reminisce about their time overseas. “It also gives students who have returned from trips overseas a chance to showcase their experience and hopefully generate interest in other students,” said Taylor, junior in veterinary medicine. Representatives from both local and national organizations will be on hand to answer students’ questions and encourage them to get involved in international opportunities. Organizations such as the Study Abroad Center, Peace Corps, College of Agriculture International Office, Purina and Christian Veterinary Mission have attended in the past, said the committee’s former president Renee Funk, senior in veterinary medicine. “Anyone we can get our hands on is welcome [to present], as long as they offer what is intended in the spirit of the international fair,” Taylor said. The fair is organized by the Committee for International Veterinary Opportunities. The committee’s goal is to make students aware of international resources, Taylor said. “It’s an organization made of both students and faculty with interest in international experiences and the way those experiences can enrich our lives,” he said.
