If the van’s a-rockin’, don’t come a-takin’ pictures of it

Bob Tarbox

I write with great concern for the photo staff and/or editorial staff of the illustrious Iowa State Daily. Would any, or even one or the other, of you know the truth if you saw it? Don’t answer that question too fast, for I think not. The snow-covered van pictured so prominently on the front page of the Daily Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, belies your ability to judge the truth, or just a lack of concern for the truth. That is my van, and it is parked on my property, not on Ontario Street and not in the way of city plows. My late father, who was a broadcast journalist, and my older brother, a print journalist would both find your conduct in this matter to be reprehensible. You bring great shame on the profession of journalism. May you one day find yourselves employed at the National Enquirer where they don’t make the news, they make up the news.
