Letter to the editor: I don’t question greek actions, just greek motives

Seamus Murphy

I can understand why you are patting Phi Delta Theta and Chi Omega on their proverbial backs. What they are doing is, arguably, a good thing. I don’t take issue with their actions, just their motives and the motives of the RCA president. They don’t want to get dorm dwellers involved. They want to involve dorm dwellers in greek houses. RCA President Walling said so himself (Oct. 16, RCA Minutes) after he met with the IFC. You missed the dollar amount by $500. President Walling has told the RCA Assembly that he wants to use $2500, not $2000 (Nov. 13, RCA Minutes). I was at the two meetings when Veishea was addressed. Of the few complaints and suggestions that surfaced, not a single person said anything along the lines of wanting the RCA to be involved. The clear majority opinion in RCA is one of apathy. One doesn’t have to dig too deep to see that most of the RCA students do not care about Veishea, nor do they want to put in the time to be involved in it. The collective money of 3000-plus students is to be spent because the RCA President is a greek-in-denial. I don’t think there is anything wrong with being a greek, but if you’re going to be one, be one.

Don’t be in denial about it.
