Letter to the editor: Cerra is an idiot; Texas rules
December 7, 2000
I often wonder what is going through the head of Carmen Cerra when he creates his cartoons. Does he do any research on the topics he draws about? Or is every headline just one big joke?
I truly believe that he could not have drawn something like he did Dec. 7 and have known all of the background behind this story.
On Tuesday, Dec. 6 Garry Dean Miller was lethally injected in Texas, their 38th execution of the year. Miller was condemned to die for the 1988 slaying of April Marie Wilson, who was raped, choked and beaten to death. She was 7-years-old.
Not only did he rape, choke and beat her to death, but he decided to drag her body through a cactus field and leave it in a clump of brush outside of Abilene.
Anyone as sick and ruthless as this deserves nothing less than the death penalty. If it was my choice he would have been tortured just like his helpless 7-year-old victim. In a sense, Carmen Cerra you are correct.
The state of Texas and the Texas government deserve an enormous congratulation and I’m sure that the family of April Wilson will have a much happier holiday.
