Why Bush is the wrong choice
November 1, 2000
As Election Day approaches, we on the Daily Editorial Board wanted to make sure the ISU student body fully understands why our man, Vice President Al Gore, really is the lesser of two evils.
So, for your reading enjoyment and increased understanding, here are a few “words of wisdom” from Republican Presidential Candidate Gov. George W. Bush, courtesy of the Web site www.realchange.org.
Remember, these are quotes, public comments …
“There ought to be limits to freedom. We’re aware of this site, and this guy is just a garbage man; that’s all he is.”
— Bush in reference to a Web site that parodies him. Hmm, limits to freedom, right.
“I’m a uniter not a divider. That means when it comes time to sew up your chest cavity, we use stitches as opposed to opening it up.”
— Bush, on David Letterman, March 2, 2000. The audience may have booed, but we haven’t totally figured out what he meant yet.
“I propose that every city have a telephone number 119 — for dyslexics who have an emergency.”
— Yes, Bush really said this. All we can say is “Wow.”
“That Adam Clymer [New York Times reporter] is a major league asshole.”
— Bush to running mate Dick Cheney; it’s not that he said it, it’s that he said it so everyone could hear. Check the microphone, Governor, when you’re in public.
“I hope to show Hispanics that Republicans do have a heart, but I also want to send a message to people from around the country as to how to pick up the Hispanic vote.”
— Gov. George Bush speaks again. Nice motivations there, Governor.
So now you have our evidence. Good luck in the voting booth on Tuesday.
