IRHA approves Internet limit
November 12, 2000
The Inter-Residence Hall Association passed an Internet bill that proposes a 500-megabyte limit on residence hall students’ output from the ISU network.
The bill passed Thursday 23-3-0 without discussion prior to the vote. Co-author David Boike said the parliament already knew coming into the meeting what they were going to vote for.
“I think we’ve all heard from our associations on how we should vote,” said Boike, Union Drive Association at-large.
Provost Rollin Richmond proposed the Internet cap. He asked for a 200-megabyte limit on Internet output to curb a small group of residence hall students who have been accessing over one gigabyte of information daily.
Also, a vision statement, created by IRHA President Paul Duncan, passed 18-3-4. The bill said IRHA lacked a clear vision for the future. Duncan said he felt it was time to create a statement.
“You’re supposed to look at it and say, ‘That’s what I’m supposed to be doing in IRHA,'” he said. “I think that the people in residence hall government have the ability to do great things.”
