Letter to the editor: You say you want a revolution?

Matt Hubbs

To Sam Wong and the entire staff at the Daily who like to tell students why we all should vote for Al Gore, I advise you to check out the history of revolution. Now, are we, the supporters of Ralph Nader, a revolution? Far from it. But could this be the beginning of one?

You are right. For you to advise the people of this campus and this country to not vote for who they would feel the best president and instead vote for the candidate you and your fellow staff members prefer is a far cry from simply expressing your paper’s opinion.

We will not be voting for Al Gore, because we are not supporters of Al Gore just as we are not supporters of George W. Bush, Pat Buchanan or any other candidate running for president.

Ralph Nader supporters vote for Ralph Nader. That is kind of how this system of democracy works. A vote is not a play of strategy, but a voice saying, “This is who I feel would make the best man for the job.”

Now, if you there at the Iowa State Daily choose to vote for Al Gore because he is what you want in a president, I hope you do just that.

But quit telling me and my fellow independent thinkers how to use our vote, because I think we can figure it out for ourselves.

You may be cussing us tomorrow when Dubya wins, but at least our voice was heard while yours will just be drowned in the millions who care not to risk a change, and to me that is a lot worse than losing.
