Letter to the editor: `Angels’ rip-off

It’s pretty cool when a new movie like “Charlie’s Angels” comes to Iowa State and students are able to see it for free.

All they have to do is go pick up a pass at Student Office Space! What a great deal … or not.

We got our “free passes” for the movie over two weeks ago and were anxiously awaiting the screening on Nov. 1.

The ticket said, “Passes required. Space is limited and not guaranteed. Please arrive early.”

From that, we interpreted that the pass was our ticket into the movie and if we didn’t get there early enough, we wouldn’t get seats.

What we didn’t realize is that in order to get into the movie, we not only needed a white Student Office Space pass, but also a red ticket that was handed out at the Union just before the show.

We arrived at 7:45 p.m. to find a line that stretched around the Union and gloating red-ticket holders who taunted us for not having these special red tickets.

We found an official who said the seats were full and we wouldn’t be able to get into the movie even though we had what we thought were movie passes.

The sponsors of the Advance Screening Events should seriously reconsider their process for distributing tickets. They should only give away the number of tickets they can supply seating for. If you only have 600 seats, only give out 600 passes. We are a school of science and technology; you’d think people could do the math.

If you need this special red ticket, don’t give out the worthless “required” white passes in the first place!

We saw lots of disappointed faces in the crowd and were a little upset over a poorly-planned situation.

In the future, it might be wise to have two showings of such a popular film or just give a limited number of passes to those who picked them up first.
