Student robbed in ISU lot, police say
November 16, 2000
A female ISU student was robbed in a parking lot north of the Industrial Education II Building Wednesday evening, said Department of Public Safety officials.
The student, whose name is not being released, was approached in Lot 35 by the assailant at 9:30 p.m. as she was getting into her vehicle, officials said.
The woman was then pushed against the vehicle and was robbed of a small amount of cash and a set of keys which were inside her coat pockets.
“We are reluctant to give [her name] out because her keys were taken,” said Loras Jaeger, director of DPS.
Jaeger said if the victim’s name is given out, the person who committed the crime could find out where she lives, and that could lead to more severe problems in the future.
Aaron DeLashmutt, investigative officer for DPS, said there was not a weapon involved in the incident, and the victim was fortunate enough to not have suffered any injuries.
DeLashmutt said officers do not have any idea who might have committed the crime.
“We’re not sure if it was a male or female,” he said. “She didn’t know because it happened so quick.”
DeLashmutt said officers do not have any clues as of now, but they are looking for some sort of a lead.
“We’re checking around the area to see if anyone happened to see anything,” he said.
Until officers receive another lead, DeLashmutt said DPS will conduct another interview with the victim. He said he hopes the victim will be able to remember more once the initial shock wears off.
