The ISU Women’s Volleyball team carried the momentum from Wednesday night’s hard fought match against Oklahoma into Saturday nights game with Colorado. Colorado came into Saturday nights game with an overall record of 5-6 and stood 1-2 in the Big 12. The Buffaloes recently came off of two losses again Texas A&M, 3-1, and also to Nebraska, 3-0, before coming to Hilton Coliseum. “After looking at the film of Colorado the kids felt like Colorado was a similar team to Oklahoma, and they felt they could come out against Colorado and do some things that didn’t work well against Oklahoma,” Coach Grensing said. The Cyclones played well with the Buffaloes in game one. Unfortunately, the Cyclones fell short losing the first game 15-11. Mandi Harms came up with six digs in the first, followed closely by Nanette Allen with five. “We got down 1-8, and then we had a strong series of plays, putting together a run where we scored seven straight plays, tied it up, and I was really impressed with the way we played,” Grensing said. ” It was similar to the way we played against Oklahoma. We got behind in a couple of the games and in those comebacks they worked hard and played aggressive.” As the night progressed, the Cyclones momentum began to fade with each match. Game two and three also belonged to Colorado, winning 15-7 and 15-4. Stacy Nicks finished the night with six kills. Mandi Harms contributed with five kills and 11 digs. Nanette Allen tallied five kills and eight digs. “Our defense is getting better and part of that is with our blocks are more disciplined, and so it’s easier to dig back there. We have defensive specialists like April Gerloff and Dana Koziol, who do a great job and step up in there play,” Grensing said. With the loss to Colorado, the Cyclones move 2-11 overall and 0-6 in Big 12 conference play. Next up for Iowa State will be a road trip to Texas A&M on Oct. 4. “Texas A&M is a top 20 team, and we’re going into their gym. It’s a match that we have to be aware of,” Grensing said.
