We’re still better than Nebraska
October 7, 2000
So we suffered a little defeat last weekend at the hands of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. No big whoop.
At least we fought the good fight and held the number one team in check for three quarters before they outplayed us in the fourth.
There is no sense in letting one loss dim our accomplishments up to this point; we still have the rest of the season to dominate, and dominate we shall.
You can say what you want to about Nebraska, but they sure do put an inordinate amount of time and energy into their football. You think with all that, they would have done a better job beating us than waiting until the fourth quarter. What is that?
Are they overcompensating for shortcomings? Possibly.
Besides football, there really isn’t much reason to praise the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.
Sure, Cliffs Notes were invented there and they have a really cool Natural History museum. But when Husker fans take time out of their busy days to think kindly about UNL, football is all they have.
We have pride in so many things here at Iowa State, our football team is only one part of a glorious whole.
We stood up nicely to the Huskers and although we were beaten on the field, at least our degrees will be worth something one day.
When we hold the number one team at bay for three quarters, can it be truly said that we lost? Only so far as the scoreboard is concerned.
To look at it another way, not getting dominated from start to finish by a superior team is quite an accomplishment in its own right.
There is always the next game and in true Cyclone fashion, we will not let one defeat slow the momentum we have built all season long.
We at the Daily want to let Oklahoma State know we feel sorry for the humiliation and pain they are going to experience next Saturday, and how!
