Letter to the editor: Don’t stress
September 27, 2000
To those who feel they or others are “threatened” by Thomas Hill’s recent quote, please be careful what you stress about. Your blood pressure may increase and you might just die early. Sorry, I take that back. I don’t want to seem violent. Violence in today’s world is not caused by words, movies, video games or television. Don’t blame public figures like Dr. Hill who was obviously making a joke using an age-old phrase. I am sure you have used it, so don’t deny it. If you want to blame someone for violence in society, blame the parents. Hearing Mr. Hill say “I might just have to kill her” will not cause undue violence. Watching violent movies will not cause a kid to kill another kid. Playing “Doom” will not make someone shoot up their school. Parents who pay no attention to their quiet, emotionally challenged and disturbed children will, however. I enjoy reading these petty letters to the Daily. Write a retort; you’ll be sure to have the last word, because I’m done. Cory Schmitz
