Three men were arrested Wednesday morning after officials said they were caught breaking into cars in a Towers Residence Hall parking lot. Shawn Dreesman, 18, and Zachary Allan Jordison, 18, both of Fort Dodge, and Chad Allen Ault, 21, of Otho, were charged with third-degree burglary, said Jerry Stewart, associate director of public safety. Stewart said Joel Congdon, Department of Public Safety officer, observed three men running between the cars in Lot 61 around 3 a.m. Congdon followed the men and asked for identification after finding them inside a 1991 blue Chevy Cavalier with the trunk ajar. “Large amounts of stereo equipment and other valuables were found in the trunk and passenger compartment,” Stewart said. DPS confiscated about 45 CDs, six CD players, four stereo faceplates, three CD cases and two speakers. The Chevy was towed and impounded, and at least two of the individuals admitted to being involved in the incident, Stewart said. The men broke into at least four vehicles before Congdon caught them, Stewart said. Abbie Larson and Katie Reinhart, both of Knapp Hall, and Megan Cox of Storms Hall had their vehicles broken into by the three men, Stewart said. Cox said she had a $200 CD player stolen out of her 1994 Saturn. “I think that the school needs to take more of a preventative action, but I applaud the efforts of the people involved,” she said. Stewart said DPS will hold the stolen items as evidence until the case is resolved or until it is released by the Story County Attorney’s Office. “While it’s gratifying to apprehend the individuals responsible for committing these acts, we also sympathize with the victims for not only monetary losses but the tremendous inconvenience,” he said. Director of Public Safety Loras Jaeger said Congdon did a terrific job of being observant and apprehending the suspects involved. “We spend a great deal of time assuring that student vehicles are safe,” he said.
