A $2,500 reward is being offered for any information leading to the return of the statue head taken from the south entrance of MacKay Hall. The head of one of the child statues was removed and stolen Thursday night, Department of Public Safety officials said. The headless statue is surrounded by his brother and sister in Christian Petersen’s sculpture, “Ring of Life.” The statue was a gift to the university from the class of 1941. The “Ring of Life” is one of several sculptures on the ISU campus made by Petersen, who was the first university artist in residence. His artwork is currently on display in the Brunnier Art Museum to commemorate its 25th anniversary. The university will have to pay more than $10,000 to replace the head, museum officials said. If anyone has any information concerning the whereabouts of the statue’s head, please contact DPS at 294-4428.
