September 27, 2000
The hopes were high in the hearts of the ISU Women’s Volleyball team Wednesday night as the Cyclones fought a hard five set match against the Sooners. The Cyclones won two of the first three games but lost the last two letting the Sooners escape with the victory. Game one went to Oklahoma by a 15-8 advantage. The Cyclones fell behind early by an 8-4 score in the second game. It again looked like it would be a long night in Oklahoma for the Cyclones. Luckily the squad got on a roll and came from behind to win the second game, 20-18. Leading the way for the Cyclones was sophomore Mandi Harms. Harms tallied five kills in game two and finished out the night leading the team with 13 kills and a .229 hitting percentage. Along with Harms, fellow sophomore Sarah Rollman contributed greatly to the Cyclones’ plan of attack. Harms ended the night against the Sooners with 11 kills and 6 digs. The Cyclones went into game three with confidence from their second-game win and took the game by a score of 15-11. The Cyclones’ momentum dropped soon after the quick streak ended as Oklahoma came away with a 15-3 victory in the fourth game. Game five also belonged to the Sooners, as the Sooners took the match with a 15-8 victory in the deciding game. Iowa State’s record drops to 2-10 overall and 0-5 in conference play. With the win for Oklahoma, the Sooners even out their overall record to 6-6 and stand 1-3 in the Big 12 conference. The Sooners were led by Cathy Cook who registered 27 kills with a hitting percentage of .427. The Cyclones will be back on their home court on Saturday as they face Colorado at 7 p.m.
