Letter to the editor: ACLU invitational
August 26, 2000
I would like to invite all those interested in the rights of students to attend the first meeting of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). The ACLU has chapters all over the United States, on and off campuses. ACLU concerns itself with issues from National Security to racial equality. Here on campus we deal primarily with student’s rights. Some of the issues we plan to talk about this year are free speech, the “Snitch Law,” and the new conduct code. Also we have already planned to work with other groups on campus during Banned Books Week (Sept. 25-29). Other plans include a newly developed sub-committee called Campus Policy Review (or CPR). This committee plans to stay updated with campus policies and keep them from violating student’s rights. If any of this sounds interesting or you would like more information please join us at our first official meeting this Monday, Sept. 28. The meeting will be held at 8 p.m. in the Memorial Union, room 233. Also, you can check us out at Clubfest Sept. 6. Jessica Ireland
