The information in the log is obtained from Department of Public Safety reports released to the Daily. All those accused of violating the law are innocent until proven guilty in court.


July 17

* An ISU staff member reported that computer equipment was taken from Room 408 of Agronomy Hall sometime since July 16. There was no evidence of forced entry. Estimated loss was $3,464.

* Christa Villalobos, Waterloo, reported the theft of a cellular telephone from her room in Willow Hall. The incident occurred July 15. Estimated loss was $90.

* Karen Ross, 8C Schilletter Village, backed her vehicle into a motorcycle owned by Bruce Adami, 221 Sheldon Ave., while it was parked in Lot 26. The motorcycle sustained minor damage.

July 18

* During a routine traffic stop at Hayward Avenue and Lincoln Way, Bryan J. Sacre, 22, 2709 Lincoln Way, was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. Sacre was arrested and charged with first-offense operating while intoxicated.

* Recreation Services staff reported that a rock had been thrown through the windshield of an ISU vehicle parked near State Gym.

* DPS received a report of the theft of a wallet from the tennis court area near the Forker Building. The incident occurred July 15.

* DPS received information of an assault that occurred at the research fields near Celtic Manor. Two women were walking in that area when a former boyfriend of one of the women approached them. He allegedly hit one of them and injured her arm.

* A vehicle driven by Jodi Fee, Pella, struck a deer in the Veterinary Medicine parking lot. There was no damage to the car.

July 19

* David Shoemaker, Friley Hall, reported the theft of his camera from the area near the Friley Arches. Estimated loss was $500.

* A vehicle driven by Zhang Feng, 43D Schilletter Village, made a wide turn off Stange Road and collided with a vehicle driven by Jolene Buttjer, Charles City, that was stopped at the stop sign that exits Lot 35.

July 20

* During a routine traffic stop on South Fourth Street, Michelle L. Sproul, 26, Nevada, was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. Sproul was arrested and charged with second-offense operating while intoxicated.

* Two state-owned FP&M vehicles collided near the General Services building. There was minor damage.

* A faculty member in Sweeney Hall reported the theft of a 56K-modem card from a laptop computer. Estimated loss was $250.

* Melissa Santelli, 502 Howard Ave., reported the theft of her bicycle from the area of the Friley food dock. Estimated loss was $400.

July 21

* A vehicle driven by Jason Johnsen, 219 Ash Ave., backed into a vehicle driven by Kent Keech, Story City. There were no injuries. Estimated damage was $3,000.

* Mallika Bachan, 8166 Buchanan Hall, reported that her bicycle had been taken from the rack on the north side of Buchanan Hall. Estimated loss was $75.

* During a routine traffic stop at Beach Avenue and Cessna Street, Damien Siech and Austin Buelt were found to have outstanding warrants for their arrests. Siech and Buelt were taken into custody and transported to the Ames Police Department.

* During a routine traffic stop at Lincoln Way and Knoll Road, Joseph Bormann, 20, 841 Dickinson Ave., was found to have consumed alcohol while under the legal age. Bormann was referred to Department of Transportation officials for a .02 civil violation.

July 22

* During a routine traffic stop at Ash Avenue and Donald Street, Laramie Heuser, 2636 Hunt St., was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. Heuser was arrested and charged with second-offense operating while intoxicated.
