Ames arts

Kathryn Andre

Two hours of your time is needed to assist in the development of a vision for the arts in Ames, leading to a comprehensive community plan for today and tomorrow. The university community is critical to the success of this process.

For the first time in the history of Ames, an extensive community arts survey is being conducted. The objectives are to clearly understand the arts assets we have and to develop a long-range plan and vision for arts in Ames. This assessment is funded by the City of Ames and the National Endowment for the Arts. Arthur Greenberg, from AMS Planning and Research in St. Louis, is the consultant hired to facilitate this process. He will be in Ames on June 29 and 30 to participate in focus groups.

We will seek to identify problems, opportunities and solutions related to specific topics. These sessions will assist in developing the substance of the plan’s goals, objectives and strategies according to the specific topic areas.

The success of this process is dependent upon the representation of a broad cross section of our community. Please call some friends and attend one of these times: Thursday, June 29 business/downtown interests, 8 to 10 a.m.; Octagon Dance Studio individual artists (visual, performance, literary, etc), 11 to 1 p.m.; Octagon Dance Studio teachers, parents, arts education groups, 3 to 5 p.m.; Willson-Beardshear School, 920 Carroll Ave., Room 5 Town Meeting, 6 to 8 p.m., City Hall Council Chambers; Friday, June 30 Arts and Cultural Organizations, 9 to 11 a.m.; Octagon Dance Studio Arts and Cultural Groups that have facilities or are planning facilities, 11 to 1 p.m.; Octagon Dance Studio.
