Leave Boheme alone

Rachel Morey

Why isn’t Ames supporting Boheme? Do we need to crack down on quiet, nontraditional bars with great menus and even better service?

Is it necessary to “protect” our fair city from the evils of ethnic music, good conversation and a place where the beer is never sold for a dime per draw?

Pete Sherman and his staff are committed to providing a place where people can sit down, order a really great glass of wine and have an intelligent conversation.

I am at Boheme regularly and have never seen vomit on the pavement outside. I have never witnessed a group of underage girls giggling about how “awesome” their fake IDs are and how it’s “so cool” to be out with all the 21-year-old boys.

Help me out here. How is Boheme posing a threat to the sanctity of our community?

Pete Sherman is all about community. Ever been to Open Mic Night on Sundays? Entertaining, talented, local folks of all ages get up on a small stage to play, sing or say what they need to, and we get to watch.

Boheme supports local talent in the community and caters to a clientele that Campustown cuts out with their Britney Spears/Backstreet Boys, dime-draws, fist-fights-on-the-corner culture.

If you feel like a glass of wine and an out-of-this-world olive and cheese plate after a long day or if you just crave connection with people who are intelligent, witty and friendly, then stop by.

Ames should be supporting Boheme. Let the kids play in Campustown. Let the police babysit. City Council must have bigger fish to fry. At Boheme, things are different.
