Summer sitters’ list available

Iowa State’s Summer 2000 Sitters’ List is now available at the ISU-Ames YWCA’s office, located in Room 15 of Alumni Hall.

Potential sitters’ names, addresses, categories of children they are willing to care for (infants, toddlers, physically challenged), availability, age, experience and automobile access are included on the list.

All parties interested in obtaining a Sitters’ List are required to sign a waiver. The waiver indicates it is the parent’s responsibility to check the sitters’ references.

The Ames-ISU YWCA does not accept responsibility for use of the Sitters’ List. The service does not train caregivers or screen individuals included on the list.

Anyone interested in obtaining a copy of the list can contact Judy Dolphin at 294-1663 or Erica Tinken at 294-0044.

The list is free to ISU students. Non-students can purchase a copy of the list for $2. The list may be mailed to students and members of the community for a fee of $1.

Another College Creek contaminator found

The Broiler, 6008 Lincoln Way, was recently added to the list of College Creek’s contaminators.

Luke Nelson, of Boone County Planning and Development, said it was the owner of The Broiler, John Pfeffer, who brought the contamination to the attention of Boone County officials.

“We didn’t find out on them until recently,” Nelson said. “He [Pfeffer] hasn’t tried to hide anything, and he’s been really honest.”

Pfeffer said he was suspicious about his restaurant’s status after hearing about Chef’s Inn, 6400 Lincoln Way, being a contaminator. The Broiler was built by the same contractor as Chef’s Inn, Pfeffer said.

Pfeffer said he hired Draintech Drain Cleaning and Water Jetting Service, 2700 Ford St., to check out his system.

“We found out we were directly going into that tile,” Pfeffer said.

Nelson and Pfeffer plan to meet Thursday to survey his property and design a new system.

“I’m sorry I was a part of it, but we’re going to remedy it,” Pfeffer said. “I have no desire to pollute.”
