The information in the log is obtained from Department of Public Safety reports released to the Daily. All those accused of violating the law are innocent until proven guilty in court.

May 16

– Jon Paul Haggard, Boone, reported that someone scratched both sides of his pickup truck while it was parked in Lot 41. The damage was estimated at $400.

– Cassandra McConkey, 1409 Delaware Ave., reported the theft of a bookbag and its contents from Beyer Hall. Loss was estimated at $1,000.

– Dave Mattern, Des Moines, reported that an unknown vehicle struck his car while it was parked in Lot 57.

May 17

– During a routine traffic stop at Lincoln Way and Marshall Avenue, the driver was suspected to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. A body specimen was taken for future chemical testing.

– Carol Carlson, 1652A Buchanan Hall, reported that the television in the main lounge of Westgate Hall had been shot with a BB gun. The incident occurred sometime since May 6. Estimated damage was $350.

– Kevin Hughes, 4128 Harris St., reported that both sides of his vehicle were scratched with a sharp object. The incident occurred May 6. Estimated damage was $900.

-An ISU staff member reported that a vehicle struck two parked cars in Lot 59D and then left the area. The driver of the striking vehicle returned to the scene. Chen Wang, 5631 Friley Hall, was issued a citation for violating his instruction permit. There were no injuries.

– Maria Torres, 205 Beedle Drive, reported a hit-and-run accident that occurred April 18 in Lot 58.

May 18

– A University Book Store staff member reported receiving several harassing telephone calls.

– DPS received a report of someone smoking marijuana in Larch Hall. Jeremy Joseph Seddon, 19, Creston, was later charged with possession of a controlled substance.

* A person was observed in an intoxicated state on Welch Avenue. Mark Allan Amenson, 21, Ankeny, was arrested and charged with public intoxication.

May 19

– During a routine traffic stop at Lincoln Way and Hazel Avenue, James E. Survillion, 34, Nevada, was found to be operating a motor vehicle while his driver’s license was under suspension. Survillion was given a citation.

– During a traffic stop on Ash Avenue, Joshua Carl Faas, 19, 208 South Hyland, was found to have an outstanding warrant from the Ames Police Department for failure to appear. During the arrest, a water bong and glass pipe both containing marijuana were found in the vehicle. Faas was charged with possession of a controlled substance.

– A wallet was found in the area of Lake LaVerne. It was placed in evidence until the owner could be located.

May 20

– A motor vehicle was observed traveling south in the northbound lanes of Elwood Drive. The vehicle was stopped, and the driver was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. Melanie Kay Sims, 29, Stratford, was arrested and charged with operating while intoxicated.

– During a routine traffic stop at Lincoln Way and Howard Avenue, Dewey James Purkeypile, 22, 201 Howard, was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. Purkeypile was arrested and charged with operating while intoxicated.

– Kelly Patrick Minnihan, 20, Maryville, Mo., Richard Noel Lamoureux, 20, Maryville, Mo., and Michael Paul Happe, 21, 3305 Emerald Drive, were arrested at Hilton Coliseum for public intoxication. Happe was additionally charged with providing alcohol to persons under the legal age.

May 21

– During a routine traffic stop on Mortensen Parkway, Shawn Alan Danielson, 21, 1407 Meadow Lane, was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. Danielson was arrested and charged with operating while intoxicated.
