Awareness success

Jeremy P. Hayes

To the editor:

I can’t speak for all LGBT people. Nor can Reverend Donald Spitz speak for all Christians or Greg Jerrett for all allies or Peris Chamberlain for all students or Christopher Rickert for all alumni.

These letters represent the opinions of one person, not entire groups. It is unfair to generalize all Christians as zealous hate-mongers or all LGBT people as bed-hopping pedophiles. We should respect everyone and their beliefs.

The opinion section is an open forum for all opinions, not just those with which you agree. It is serving its purpose.

Awareness Days 2000 was not intended to make everyone agree with all queer people, but to make you aware of what’s going on around you and on this campus and to help create open, honest discussions.

It is apparent from the response to the picture of my boyfriend and I kissing that it was a fabulous success.
