To the editor:

Elian Gonzalez’s Cuban father as opposed to his father? Elian’s Cuban family as opposed to his family?

It kills me to read about his Cuban father and his Cuban family.

Elian has one father, Juan Miguel Gonzalez, who happened to be from Cuba. Elian’s mom, dad and all his four grandparents are from Cuba.

So any way you look at it, his family can only be from Cuba. It’s not right to refer to Juan Miguel as Elian’s Cuban father.

I don’t care if the father is rich or poor, black or white, handsome or ugly, tall or short, slim or fat, gay or straight, educated or illiterate or whatever, he should be referred to as Elian’s father.

Even though Elian is only 6 years old, he will appreciate a little respect toward his father and family.
