Senior week celebrates soon-to-be graduates
April 16, 2000
Offering concerts, seminars and free food, Senior Week will celebrate the contributions of students who are just about to complete their ISU education and take a leap into the real world.
“It’s a chance to bring the senior class together,” said Erika Eaton, public relations for Senior Class Council. “We do this for senior unity and to recognize our seniors and the hard work they put in.”
Heather Bennett, vice president of the Senior Class Council, said seniors are focusing on graduating now since it’s nearing the end of the year.
“It’s another way of celebrating graduation,” she said. “It also helps them make the transition from senior to alumni.”
Eaton, senior in journalism and mass communication, said some of the highlights of the week include a concert by The Cartwright Brothers in the Maintenance Shop Tuesday, Last Chance Campaniling and a free barbecue on central campus Thursday.
“We’re really excited about it,” she said. “We want to bring people together for the concert.”
Eaton said the events, particularly workshops during the week, are not just for seniors.
“We want as many people as we can get to go the seminars,” she said. Eaton said some of the events are tailored for both seniors and underclassmen, such as the networking and r‚sum‚ building workshop.
Bennett, senior in chemical engineering, said the council members decided to make all the events, except for the sub lunch, open to all levels of students.
“We opened it up to all students so that they are aware of Senior Class Council and what goes on when you are a senior,” she said. “It gives them something to look forward to.”
Eaton said she hopes for a good turnout, and she’d like Iowa weather to comply.
“I hope this week has good weather since many of the events will be outside,” she said. “That will bring out a lot more people.”
Eaton said most events will have a rain location, but more people will drop in during fair weather.
Bennett said she thinks many people will come out Thursday for Last Chance Campaniling.
“We wanted to end it with something fun,” she said.
