English 105, it’s all there

Letter to the editor:

It has been clear to me that the authors of the recent letters to the editor, homosexual or heterosexual, have simply forgotten what they learned in English 105.

When making a strong argument, it must be remembered that you do not attack the character of the person. The audience to whom you are addressing is not going to open up to your point if you call it haters, homophobes, queers and whatever else.

It is also a bad idea to try to destroy people’s beliefs such in God or whether or not it is a choice to be homosexual. Years ago, we fought for our rights to exercise freedom of speech AND freedom of press. Let’s not destroy what our ancestors fought so hard for.

It was not a bright idea to put a picture of two men kissing in the paper and the whole drag queen thing, but when we heard that two guys were in the paper kissing, let’s admit it, we just had to check it out!

Mission accomplished. Attention was brought to the paper. Homosexual behavior is out there, whether we want to accept it or not. We have to be open to everyone’s rights whether we find it moral or not.

As for heterosexuals saying they have no homophobic feelings: yeah, right.

We all have some negative feeling toward people who are different from us.

As for the minorities, you are not going to find acceptance by putting us down. Remember that everyone else has the right to free speech, too. Keep it clean. Remember to look at the WHOLE picture, from BOTH sides of the spectrum.
