Shouldn’t be shocked

Letter to the Editor

To the editor:

As a strong supporter of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender rights, I have to strongly disagree with the examples of seething intolerance.

I don’t believe the drag show at the Union warranted headlines over some of the other events of the week, but the intention of the Daily is good.

I will NOT accept that you cannot handle the picture of two males kissing. While it is very liberal of the Daily to publish such a picture, you have no right to go shouting about your virgin eyes.

I’ve seen worse in the New York Times, but that was a straight couple, so I guess it was OK, right?

As for the comments that the Daily is trying to “desensitize the people of this campus about homosexuality.” Are you sensitive about it? Well, that’s the point.

You shouldn’t be. That is your issue, not the Daily’s.

I also take issue with the comment, “Gays are destroying our heterosexual unions in America.” This rhetoric is stolen from anti-gay activists with no basis in fact.

You are either seriously misinformed or blindly following some one else’s beliefs.

If you would like to comment on fundraisers that don’t get attention, why not bring up the AIDS Walk. It raised nearly $3000 and had a large participation. It did not get front page coverage either.

The Daily covers what it thinks will generate discussion.

The gay issues are what currently do. Once you begin to accept gay people for who they are and learn to live with them, you won’t find it shocking and once its not shocking, it won’t make headlines anymore!
