Veteran stadium rockers The Who recently announced a reunion tour that includes stops in the heartland with a few other prominent bands.

Jimmy Page and The Black Crowes will join The Who as they tour in support of their new live album, “The Blues To The Bush.” The bands will play consecutive headlining dates as they crisscross the country and co-headline particular shows, Pete Townshend of The Who said at a press conference.

“The Blues To The Bush,” was recorded last fall during reunion shows at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire and at Chicago’s House Of Blues, according to Jam! Showbiz.

The album will only be available via the online music retailer musicmaker.com. The retailer also recently issued Page’s live album collaboration with The Black Crowes.

Ticketmaster begins selling tickets for the first leg of The Who reunion tour this Saturday. The first stop and the closest one to Ames will be June 25 at The World Music Theater in Tinsley Park, Ill.

Los Angeles has finally recognized the clout of headbangers throughout the city by proclaiming April 18 as “Heavy Metal Day.”

The eardrum-breaking proclamation marks the release of the “Heavy Metal 2000” soundtrack.

B-movie queen Julie Strain and members of Bauhaus will partake in the festivities by appearing at the Golden Apple Comic Shop to sign copies of the Restless Records release, which features Monster Magnet, Pantera, Coal Chamber and the first new Bauhaus track in 17 years, according to CDNOW’s Allstar News.

The first 215,000 to purchase the album, which comes with four collectible covers, will get a CD-rom version of the disc — but it doesn’t stop there.

The movie, “Heavy Metal 2000,” will be out in July as the sequel to 1981’s “Heavy Metal,” the first animated motion picture to receive an “R” rating. Later this fall the film will be released on video and DVD.

In addition, “F.A.K.K.2t,” a corresponding video game, debuts at the 2000 E3 conference in Los Angeles in May.

Elsewhere in national news, Pearl Jam has just moved the release date for their upcoming album, “Binaural.”

Originally scheduled to hit the streets on May 23, the band’s 6th studio release will be available on May 16 instead.

As of Monday, “Nothing As It Seems,” the first single from Pearl Jam’s new album, can be uploaded at the band’s official fan site www.tenclub.net, at their label site www.sonymusic.com/artists/PearlJam or www.apple.com/quicktime/hotpicks.

The retail release of the single, which was written by bassist Jeff Ament, comes out April 25, and includes the B-side “Insignificance.” The night following the release of the single, Pearl Jam will appear on “The Late Show with David Letterman,” according to their Web site.
