Lauding? No. Loquacious? Oh, yeah.

To the editor:

Irresponsible journalism is again at work at the Iowa State Daily.

I expected to open the newspaper Monday morning and find an article lauding the ISU wrestling team’s accomplishments this past weekend. Instead I was met with eight articles about the basketball teams.

There was not a single article mentioning that ISU Wrestling is No. 2 in the NCAA (only 6.5 points behind University of Iowa), that we have five All-Americans (four of which are ranked second nationally) and that Cael Sanderson is still unbeaten and has been honored with the title “Outstanding Wrestler” for the second time.

I am very proud of both basketball teams’ accomplishments and their making of school history, but eight articles about one sport in one day’s coverage is too exclusive.

I realize that wrestling is a non-revenue sport, but when one of Iowa State’s athletes (Cael Sanderson) is on the cover of the sports section in “USA Today,” that should be acknowledged!

I’m sure gymnastics would like some sort of coverage, too.

Newspapers are expected to have coverage on a wide variety of stories.

Instead of being so loquacious about one sport, several of the stories should have been combined and made more succinct to allow room for other articles.

And what’s more upsetting is that the “Daily Iowan” (the newspaper from Iowa State’s arch-nemesis) wrote more about our wrestling team’s accomplishments than we did.
