Faculty Senate to vote on bylaws
March 7, 2000
Voting on new bylaws and a report on the academic calendar will highlight tonight’s Faculty Senate meeting.
“The big item is the new bylaws,” said Max Porter, parliamentarian.
“The senate has been writing and rewriting the bylaws for approximately a year,” he said.
Dean Ulrichson, president, said the bylaws do not affect the general faculty.
“That really affects the internal operations of the senate and not much else,” he said.
Ulrichson said the University Calendar Committee also will be reporting back to the senate on the winter-break issue.
“That report asks for a review of how the University Calendar Committee is constituted and charged, but there is no motion to change from a three-week to a four-week [break],” he said.
Ulrichson said there also will be a vote on the charge for the Committee on Women and Minorities.
“The committee was approved some time ago, but we didn’t get the charge written, so that will get approved tomorrow,” he said.
Senators also will be electing council chairs and a secretary. Ulrichson said there are six seats available, and nominations have been taken for about a month and also will be accepted from the floor.
Ulrichson said the salary policy voted on in the last meeting will be up for reconsideration.
“There’s going to be an opportunity to take another vote on the salary policy,” he said.”We have a request from a senator to reconsider the vote.”
The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Room 275 of the Scheman Building, and the following will be discussed:
New business
* Senators will elect council chairs and the secretary.
* There will be a discussion on changes for procedures for the April meeting.
* There will be a reconsideration vote on the salary policy.
Old business
* Senators will vote on the bylaws.
* A representative for the University Calendar Committee will give a review of how the committee is run.
