GSB to try again on allocations

The Government of the Student Body senators will vote on the Finance Committee’s recommendations for spring allocations tonight, after postponing the vote to give themselves another week to research the funding cuts.
The senators voted 17-12 to postpone the vote at last Wednesday’s meeting, sending home an angry crowd of student representatives and organization advisers.
“I don’t think it is worthwhile to have each of the senators go over all the numbers,” said Phillip Greco, YMCA representative, after the meeting last week. “My group needs to get going.”
During the extra week, GSB Finance Director Jeremy Williams said about six or seven senators asked him questions about the Finance Committee’s recommendations, and he knew of only one senator who came in to listen to the tapes of the Finance Committee hearings.
The student representatives will come back to the senate meeting tonight at 7 in the Sun Room of the Memorial Union. The following will be discussed:

* A funding bill to allocate $1,100 to the Off-Campus and Adult Student Services to defray the cost of translating an off-campus housing guide into 11 languages. By Edmiston, Wisher and others.
* A funding bill to allocate $300 to the 2000 Journey of Hope cross-country bike trip to increase awareness of people with disabilities in the name of Dave Adickes, who will be representing Iowa State in the trip. By Ostanik and Skutnik.
* A bill to ratify the contract between GSB and the Student Union Board for office space. By Olson and Wisher.
* A funding bill to allocate $10,000 from the Senate Discretionary Fund to Veishea, contingent upon the requirement that every item of publicity published by Veishea for the 2001 celebration be marked with “Funded by GSB” or an equivalent phrase. By Ostanik and Dlouhy.
