The ISU women’s tennis team suffered a pair of defeats last weekend.

The Cyclones dropped a close 5-4 decision to Texas Tech Friday at the Ames Racquet and Fitness Center.

Sunday, the Cyclones traveled to Minneapolis and lost, 8-1, to Minnesota.

The Cyclones’ record now stands at 2-5 overall and 0-4 in the Big 12 conference.

The Cyclones swept the three doubles matches from the Red Raiders but were only able to win one of six singles matches. The lone singles winner was No. 5 singles player Kristin Gyaki who defeated Christen Emmett, 6-0, 6-2.

Doubles winners for the Cyclones were the teams of Noortje Cornelissen and Karin Westberg, Kendra Leese and Gyaki and Edna Vazquez and Courtney Leese.

Cornelissen and Westberg won 8-4 over Amanda Earhart and Ayaka Suzuki at No. 1 doubles while Kendra Leese and Gyaki claimed an 8-5 victory over Sonnia Orellana and Emmett at No. 2 doubles.

The No. 3 doubles match was won, 8-5, by Vazquez and Courtney Leese.

Overall, the Cyclones came up one point short, and the difference was three tough singles losses in three-set matches suffered by Kendra Leese, Westberg and Goedjen.

In the loss to the Gophers, the Cyclones’ lone win came from the No. 3 doubles team of sophomore Vazquez and freshman Courtney Leese.

Vazquez and Leese rallied for a 9-8 victory over Michaela Havelkova and Andrea Rose to raise their season record to 14-1 in doubles competition.
