Carmen Cerra’s latest cartoon horrific, offensive, rude
March 3, 2000
To the editor:
I wanted to express my concern over Carmen Cerra’s cartoon in the March 2 issue of the Daily.
I was very disturbed, to say the least.
I understand his feelings about the gun control issue, although I may not agree with them, but the image of the little girl laying sprawled out and dead on the floor was going too far.
It was horrific, offensive and downright rude. Although it’s a very small chance, I genuinely hope that no member of Kayla Rolland’s family ever sees that cartoon.
That cartoon took an awful tragedy way too lightly.
I often enjoy seeing Carmen’s cartoons but was disappointed to find that his sensitivity to life has been depleted.
The cartoon would have been just as effective with just a picture of a young boy holding a smoking gun without the image of the little girl lying dead in the background.
I hope that Mr. Cerra will consider the preciousness of life the next time he dips his pen into his Poison Ink.
