GSB is self-serve only

To the editor:

The Government of the Student Body is supposed to represent students. Their Web site even says “GSB is here to serve you.” It seems that GSB is actually here to serve themselves.

Chris Wisher, Steve Skutnik and Matt Craft sponsored a bill titled “‘Fun’ding Inauguration 2000” for GSB to spend $2,591 on a party for themselves. So we can safely assume that GSB has plenty of money to spend, right?

Wrong.

GSB came one vote from ending KURE’s funding. The Film Club and Lacrosse Club had their funding slashed. The GSB/IRHA Special Committee on the Department of Residence had its budget cut by more than half by GSB.

President Craft then vetoed the remaining bill. So is GSB’s top priority serving you, the student?

Not bloody likely.

Credit needs to be given to senators Cordaro, Olson, Borre, Tofilon, Medanic and the others who did not vote to fund this gala. To the 21 senators who voted in favor: Don’t break your arms patting yourselves on the backs. To the students – should these 21 be representing your needs? Vote on Feb. 29.
