Disappointed

To the editor:

I would like to express my disappointment with some of the fans at the end of the Texas game Tuesday night. Throughout the game, the fans were great, sticking with the team even when trailing by 14 points. Then at the end, when the game had been decided, I started to hear that damn “overrated” chant.

I understand many are trying to support the team, and I’m all for that, but to those taking part in the chant, have you ever stopped and thought about what you’re saying? Basically, that chant says that you don’t think your team is beating a top-quality opponent. That chant says that the rest of the country is wrong for ranking the opponent that high. Texas is a good team. Tuesday night, we proved we were better.

When Colorado fans started chanting the same thing Saturday, I had to laugh.

Not only did they need overtime to beat us, but they needed a little luck.

Not trying to take away from Jaquay Walls (because he did have an awesome game), but he couldn’t make the shot that sent the game into overtime again if you gave him 10 tries. Colorado is not a better team than the Iowa State, but they did want it more that night. Texas is the better physical team, but we are smarter, quicker and more talented. We are the better team, but it doesn’t mean they are overrated.

Let’s go out Saturday and support both the men’s and women’s teams in their final regular season home games. Let’s prove to the rest of the country that when the men beat Oklahoma State, they’re not overrated.

Iowa State is underrated.
