To the editor:

After reading Dan Nguyen’s Feb. 7 letter to the editor in the online edition of the Daily, I have one question: Have IQs dropped drastically since I went to Iowa State?

You bluster and rant with the best of them, Mr. Nguyen, but you cannot paint a turd.

Your criticism missed the point of both columns, and you descended into baseless personal attacks that were little better than schoolyard taunts.

Are you a freshman at Iowa State or Ames High? It was not clear from the content of your letter.

I don’t agree with everything Jerrett and Godar say: I like watching sports, for example.

But I would never dismiss them as narrow or illogical. That is nearly as justified as calling them Nazis simply because you disagree with them.

I find them to be the most entertaining part of the Daily and look forward to reading them every Friday.

I hope they don’t graduate any time soon, but when they do, I’m sure they will do well for themselves.

I hope they will not be the next Dave Barrys. Anyone who holds Dave Barry up as a literary icon obviously does not read much.

You’ve got a few years to pull your head out, sir. I hope you take advantage of your time wisely.
