Godar misses mark, again
February 7, 2000
To the editor:
Once again, Ben Godar’s column in the Friday Daily misses the mark. Not all athletes are criminals.
Do you have any empirical evidence to back up such broad stereotypes? I doubt it.
I suspect that student athletes, as well as others active in extracurricular activities, tend to have a lot of discipline, and that would tend to reduce their propensity for criminal behavior.
At the very least, your column ignores the extreme sacrifices athletes and others must make. I can’t imagine trying to maintain a high GPA while traveling to places like Lubbock, Waco or Stillwater.
Give ’em a break. And by the way, I think they’re still innocent until proven guilty.
