Diaz right about Gonzales

Javier Gonzalez

To the editor:

I agree completely with Eddie Diaz that Andy Gonzales is a misguided Latino.

As Mr. Diaz pointed out, a Republican proposed to have English as the official language in the state of Iowa. Moreover, several Republicans endorsed it.

However, they forgot that the United States is a country of immigrants and Des Moines is French.

I attended the Iowa Straw Poll in August, and I was surprised and upset at how the Bush campaign was targeting Latinos. The Bush tent had propaganda in Spanish as well as a Tex-Mex musician and European-Americans speaking in Spanish. I was approached by several people speaking to me with their broken Spanish.

Why is the Bush campaign so false with Latinos? Does he know that we do not need people speaking to us in Spanish just to vote for him? What about English Plus? Is this a contradiction? He does not know that Latinos cannot be fooled.

By the way, I did not vote in the Iowa Straw Poll.
