McCarroll wrong

To the editor:

John McCarroll, director of university relations, stated in a letter to the Daily, “You are absolutely wrong in saying students ‘have been moved to the balcony.'”

I enrolled at Iowa State in the fall of 1977. At that time the men’s basketball program was abysmal.

My memory may fail me, but I believe Ames averaged around 3,000 in attendance in those days, almost all of whom were students.

It wasn’t until Johnny Orr was hired that attending basketball games became “popular” within the Ames community.

It was at that point that the administration began removing students from the floor level seats, moving them further and further up towards the rafters of Hilton.

One other note. Our student season tickets cost less than $30.
