STOMP marches into Ames

The dance/percussion sensation STOMP has gained international acclaim by taking brooms, match boxes and other common household objects and turning them into a makeshift orchestra.

Aside from their live performances, STOMP is featured on Quincy Jones “Q’s Juke Joint,” and has also been featured in the soundtrack for the film “Tank Girl.”

Formed in 1991 in England as street musicians, STOMP members just wanted people to stop and watch them. That same year, they won a Fringe Award for their harmony and brilliant creative use of everyday materials.

In 1994, they entered New York and received rave reviews from New York Times and became a hit in America.

“The members are trained and skilled musicians and put on a sensational show,” said Patti Cotter, spokeswoman for Iowa State Center.

Tickets are still available for shows tonight and Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
