We would like to congratulate the Iowa State women’s basketball team for their great effort against Drake Wednesday night.

Not to take anything away from Drake, but Drake did not beat ISU — the referees beat ISU. Having attended many games over the last few years, we cannot recall seeing more botched, missed and phantom calls in one game.

Had the refs called the game fairly, ISU would have won the game.

The fact that the loss was only by four points in a hostile environment such as the Knapp Center proves ISU is a superior team. They could easily have given up down the stretch when the officiating grew too embarrassing to even watch, but they did not.

They fought until the last second even when a win was no longer attainable. This is a sign of a great team.

Support for this team has been phenomenal at home. We hope a few more people will buy up the remaining tickets for the Iowa game on Saturday and watch the threes fly. What a great game to go down in the history books as the first sold-out women’s basketball game at ISU!
