I, a woman, read Playboy

Jean Fitzpatrick

In defense of the Daily staff: Playboy is an excellent publication.

In case you didn’t know, not all the people who read Playboy are lecherous, male droolers. I read it. I, a woman, read Playboy. If a statue of Venus de Milo is fine art, why isn’t a well-taken photo of a naked woman? Because she has arms? Not only does Playboy employ a fantastic set of photographers, Playboy goes out of its way to show its models are educated women with amazing career goals.

The articles are timely, well-written and informative. Last month, I learned how to conduct myself in a sushi bar — which I appreciate being informed about; I might like to go sometime. Also, the technology section is always impressive, and the advice given in the write-in section is always tactful and appropriate.

I’d say it’s true what they say about Playboy: It’s the gentleman’s magazine. It caters to a higher section of the population than do such sleaze pits as Penthouse and Hustler. I’d even say that Playboy has done a lot of good for women over the years.

In the future, before you belittle a publication, read it.
