I have seen God …

Joy K Zingler

I am writing in regard to a column by Aaron Woell. I am not writing to push my stance for or against school prayer but in response to some statements made about religion being a “crutch” for when you are in pain.

In addition, the statement that praying to God for everyday things is “inconsequential as to be humorous.”

Jesus came to bring us salvation not through fear or coercion, but love. Following Christ gives freedom and a life filled with joy and many blessings.

Prayer is more than comfort; it is communication with God. Prayer is not just a time of receiving, but sharing.

God loves us so much that he gave the greatest sacrifice, the life of his son. He wants to be a part of our everyday life if we let him.

I have seen God bring much peace and joy through the Christ-like actions of others. God is inside and all around us.

God can do anything, so why not ask him to help us and give us strength to face the challenges of the day.

A friend would support us in something as simple as finding our car keys, so would God.

That was how I found my car keys – through prayer, patience, and searching.

The line about “Immersing yourself in religion is dangerous” sounds like a statement made in fear. Not sharing with God your joys and sorrows is like closing yourself off to a loved one.

I am writing this in hopes that you and others may see God as a friend and his blessings a gift, not just a tool to provide comfort.
