Safety escorts are right here

Ryan Pfannkuch

In Jeremy Blankenship’s Nov. 18 letter about campus safety, he said that he would like to see a safety escort service formed for people who might feel uncomfortable walking around campus at night.

Actually, a widely used safety escort service already exists.

The ISU Department of Public Safety offers on-campus safety escorts for students, faculty, staff or visitors. Just call 294-4444, and a student officer or the Help Van will pick you up and give you a ride to or from any campus location, including the greek areas.

It’s a free service, and it sure beats a late night walk from the stadium lots to the dorm in the middle of winter!

In addition to safety escorts, the DPS Help Van provides FREE assistance with minor vehicle problems.

The Help Van provides jump starts and contains an air tank and tools for tire trouble. The Help Van also can give you a lift to the nearest gas station if your tank runs dry.

More information about these services is available on the DPS homepage at http://www.public. iastate.edu/~dps_info/homepage. html
